New York’s Popup Nightclub, Chez Andre, Kept The Party Going All Night With HARMAN’s JBL Loudspeakers
NORTHRIDGE, California – Chez Andre, a popup nightclub hosted at The Standard Hotel in New York City’s East Village, relied on New York-based Canal Sound & Light to supply a high-quality audio system featuring HARMAN’s JBL Professional loudspeakers, supporting the club’s DJs, live bands and karaoke singers. The club opened September 7, 2012 and continued for 22 days.
The club owners, Andre Balazs (who has experience as a hotelier) and Andre Saraiva (who has knowledge of the nightlife scene) wanted an intimate look for their club and JBL loudspeakers were the perfect fit. Deployed as part of the temporary audio system were two SRX725 loudspeakers, two JBL SRX728S subwoofers and two MRX515 loudspeakers. For amplification, Crown MA9000i MA5000i Macro-Tech I series amplifiers were used along with an XTi4002 XTi series power amplifier. A BSS Audio FDS-366 was used as the digital loudspeaker management system.
“With a short stage and two vertical ground stacks on each side, both the SRX and MRX series loudspeakers provided great sound. The system was perfect for a small band and karaoke performances, allowing patrons to feel like rock stars,” stated Jeff Kwan, Vice President, Canal Sound & Light.
“The owners loved the way the speakers looked in front of the stage,” Kwan continued. “They wanted a unique look that was different than other clubs without sacrificing any power or sound quality.”
The room at The Standard, before being transformed into a nightclub, was a storage facility that the hotel used for beds, furniture and supplies. “The amplifiers provided a great amount of power,” Kwan said. “Being able to take advantage of the BSS Omnidrive was important due to the acoustical issues that the room had given that it was a concrete box.”
“Everything worked out perfectly and the club was the place to be for the time it was open. HARMAN’s range of products helped to bring the club to life and provided the perfect mixture of sound quality and sleekness that the owners wanted.”
